Effect of NB-UVB therapy on IL-6 and neopterin levels in patients with psoriasis

Abstract Background Psoriasis is a chronic and non-transient disease with increased epidermal proliferation in the skin. Dysregulation of immune system an important factor this pathology. Inflammation markers, pro-inflammatory cytokines, cells are reported to be changed psoriasis. Study design In current cohort study, possible changes interleukin-6 (IL-6), neopterin levels, kynurenine (Kyn) pathway 42 psoriasis patients compared 30 controls, their change narrow-band (NB) UVB treatment were investigated. Methodology IL-6 serum levels analyzed ELISA kits. HPLC analyses performed detect urinary neopterin, Kyn, tryptophan (Trp) levels. Results lower, while Kyn Kyn-to-Trp ratio higher control subjects ( p < 0.01, all). Conclusion Narrow-band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) decreased Area Severity Index (PASI) scores (both, 0.01). Serum was correlated Kyn/Trp before after NB-UVB 0.05, These findings point out that measured parameters might considered support PASI score both diagnosis prognosis rather than evaluating severity disease.
